about

Making-off of the album:

The trigger for my motivation to record my first English-only worship-cd was my collection of some songs of old, and a few newer, soulish songs.

It was clear from the beginning that the recordings should take place at home, in a private, comfortable setting, and should be a live recording from when we all played together.

I didn’t want any glimmer glamour with lots of technological effects – just a mic and a half-step – that’s how the four of us started recording the basics. We were quenched in a room that was about 4x6 meters small. We couldn’t even move an inch… so the sessions were a very rare experience – it truly was worship in the intimacy with our Heavenly Father. So, finally, we ended up taking the best version of each song. Even though we hadn’t really played together a lot before, it felt as if we’d been doing this as a group since forever. We were startled.

I disliked the idea of an overproduced album, instead it should sound just like it does when any of you are worshipping the Lord together in a living-room-session. Close to the people, and of course, close to the Heavenly Father.

Later on, we added some guitar-tunes, some flute-notes, the saxophone, 2., 3., and 4. vocals as well as some additional sounds. I myself (Roswita) once again even tried out single notes on the electric guitar for the first time since many years. The real groove was then added by Andrés cool rock-guitar sound.

Background of the composition of the songs for this album:

Blessed are they: Matt. 5:3-12

I have always been moved by the Sermon on the Mount. Now, here it was! A song about it in a rocky version. It grooves. Wishing you much joy while you sing along these amazing lines of the Sermon on the Mount!

Cleaning Rain:

That year, summer had been hot and dry. I felt like, just as summer was, so also our society was in search and spiritually and mentally craving for water. So, it was extraordinary, when finally, the long-awaited rain fell, nourishing and replenishing our land. It was to me like a shower of heavenly blessings, and I knew that many souls could now bathe in this heavenly rain, including mine. The song should have a soulish, rocky touch.

Creating and Sharing: Genesis 1

I am simply awed by this story of creation. It is in and of itself wonderfully poetic, so I wanted a light, rocky creation-song. And so, it was…

Make music to your Name: from Psalm 92

I was captivated by psalm 92, so much so that I had to put all the “soul” there is in this heartfelt psalm into a soulish groove. Soon after, a melody fitting the text stood. It is full of passion for this God, to whom belong all honour and praise. It was very important to me to keep a mostly original version of the text in the psalm. The song sums up in a spontaneous outburst of instrumental and vocal praise.

River of Life:

In this ballad, I was moved by two pictures:
The first one being a river flowing from the throne of God towards us, and the second one being the river of life, rolling as naturally as life does. The joining together of those two rivers, for me, amounts to a whole stream, where I feel sheltered. It gives me strength to know that I am held and carried by this river of life. The song being first in minor, later builds up to a bridge in major, as if we’re opening entirely to this river from heaven, being soaked into its flow.

River of Joy:

This song speaks of the profound joy I sense when thinking about the fact that I am beloved through and through by this Trinity of Father (Abba), Son and Holy Spirit, whose agape love is indescribable. And while writing the song, it dawned on me that there is a psalm in the Bible which says that even the hair on my head is counted. Hence, I am truly wanted and deeply loved. That very love is being expressed in the lyrics of the chorus by the images of the river, the rainbow, the ocean, and in the same way, psalm 139:1-13 expresses it also through words such as “You know everything about me”, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb”, and similar things.

Running to the water:

In this song, I am talking about the search for true life, for an abounding source of life in the overflow. Two pictures have moved me in the same way: On the one hand is the picture of my country of birth (Cameroon), where the road to the water is a long and heavy one, and on the other hand is my thirst for the real life which threatens to dry me up on the inside. So, for once, I am on an actual physical way to the sources of water that is far away, and then, I am also on a spiritual journey on my quest to find the spiritual sources of water. In the song, I end up finding the fountain of living water that never runs dry. I have found the source of real life, and I am always carrying it with me, therefore, home is everywhere I go.

Song of Release:

The song describes the total release of a heavy load. It has very powerful music respectively. The commitment in one of the verses says: Hey, don’t be afraid, lift up your head.
I am literally filled with praise, and I lift my voice to heaven with songs of acclamation. Come, rejoice with me, praise the Lord with me by joining in this song of joy, filling you up as the heavy load is gone, and of the peace of God coming over you.

When you pass through the Water: A mash-up of Isaiah 43.

The commitments God makes to the people of Israel in Isaiah 43 inspired me for a song. It should be a blues-rock-song, energetic and vibrant. And that is just how it turned out. It’s not only a song for Israel, but for everyone of us, declaring and shouting out biblical truths as a great comfort for us all.
